Today's word is "hippophile" ... "One who loves horses." (Dictionary.com)
Trot
When I was small, I thought a horse,
Would be a perfect pet.
I could see myself upon his back,
Riding as far as I could get.
Our neighbor rode around a ring,
At some mysterious school,
And smelled of hay and horsie things,
Which I thought was very cool.
But such a luxury as that,
Would not be mine to see,
Because extra money we had not,
And responsibilities.
So being a good hippophile,
I did not give up my quest,
But collected porcelain foals and mares,
The most beautiful and best.
Though I couldn't climb upon their backs,
Or feed them oats and hay,
In imagined fields we romped and rode,
Until the end of day.
