Ufology ... Zoom

Today’s word is “ufology” ... you-fol-uh-jee ... the study of unidentified flying objects. (Dictionary.com)

Zoom
Mysteries on mysteries,
Flying through the skies,
An ufologist would say,
It’s the truth, no lie.

Either we’re alone on earth,
Or visitors are here,
This much at least is certain,
This much at least, is clear.

If only we had evidence,
To help us understand,
Then we would all know for sure,
If those unknown orbs are manned.

Goldilocks ... Details

Today’s word is “Goldilocks” ... gohl-dee-loks ... not being extreme or not varying drastically between extremes, especially between hot and cold. (Dictionary.com)

Details
Beauty everywhere you look,
In this Goldilock land of ours,
Every indication is,
It’s all created by some power.

Infinitely precise degrees,
Determine we survive,
More details than can fit our heads,
Connive to help us thrive.

This cannot be accident,
Unless chaos changes into order,
If you see that happening,
Our world may have come unmoored.

Hyetal ... Sigh

Today’s word is “hyetal” ... hahy-i-tl ... of or relating to rain or rainfall. (Dictionary.com)

Sigh
It’s still too early to think of spring,
Wild woods are filled with hyetal wind,
Night’s clammy hand holds buds at bay,
Ready to all warmth rescind.

We who watch with impatient eyes,
Are anxious for the verdant trees,
For flowers with optimistic hues,
And creatures from their shelters freed.

So we dream and watch the signs,
Ready for the first amen,
Sung from glade or blue bayou,
As to spring the winter bends.

Rasputin ... Watch

Today’s word is “Rasputin” ... ra-spyoo-tin ... any person who exercises great but insidious influence. (Dictionary.com)

Watch
We need no more Rasputins,
Or speaking snakes in trees,
It’s difficult enough,
To remain upright and free.

It is quite exhausting,
To always be on guard,
But no one said our choices
Would be any thing but hard.

On this side of Eden,
Our toil is guaranteed,
Yet with the cross in view,
We voyage with great speed.

Fantasticate ... Fight

Today’s word is “fantasticate”... fan-tas-ti-keyt ... to make or render fantastic. (Dictionary.com)

Fight
To fantasticate the world,
What a wonder that would be,
Resurrected beauty,
From sea to endless sea.

Peace and love and light,
No confusion anywhere,
Only imagination’s power,
Creating from thin air.

A pleasing, happy dream,
Which in reality will rise,
Only by delving darkly,
To the place where chaos lies.

Slaying each and every dragon,
Will surely take its toll,
But the happy victory,
Will save each and every soul.

Design
Would this be a better poem,
If worked on for endless hours?
Each word analyzed,
Called by spirit’s special powers?

Can words convey to hearts,
Explicitly their view,
Or will each readers glance,
Bring forth something new?

Epigrammatic verses,
And turns of tricky phrase,
Keep the muses busy,
As through the lines they play.

Apex
Are the thewless doomed?
Fated to be overwhelmed by the powerful,
     the loud and the focused?
What happened to the meek ...
     inheriting the earth?
In what strange world, do these sad,
     lowly ones have the rights
to become owners of a kingdom?
Perhaps this kingdom is upside down.
Perhaps its rules require a humble heart,
and a vision for something more than power.

All for fame and glory,
And a flag flown high,
Gold arranged like victory,
Hands raised to the sky.

Separated by tiny increments,
The winners take their place,
Worth all the time and effort,
(Plus a little bit of grace.)

Of the power of the meek?

Objurgating warriors,
Throw their words like stones,
Not caring if their cruelty,
Cuts others to the bone.

One day in their reveries,
Loneliness will call,
As will the consequences,
Earned from the great fall.

Sassy
Tiny, lonely messan,
Quiet in a cage,
Waiting for attention,
From one of any age.

She stays all day alone,
With nothing to amuse,
Sadly and so sorrowful,
A life she didn’t choose.

Then one day a rescue!
A family and new home,
A place of treats and love,
Who would want to roam?

Now she’s all awaggle,
Bouncy and full of pep,
She’s following her pack,
Step by happy step.

To squirm and shift positions,
All ideas shades of grey.

There’s no anchor for this soul,
No circumpolar star,
Only the flow of favored tides,
To judge both near and far.

To finally find a place to stand,
Is not a goal or end,
Only staying in good graces,
Where means justify the ends.

Cupid
To ship for those who are not real,
Seems innocent and fine,
Though all this feavered energy,
Might be a waste of time.

After all, these characters,
Bend not to our desires,
But, we in the land of fine, true love,
Are acquainted well with fire.

On Valentine’s and all the year,
Tokens of love we send,
Better for being intense and sweet,
All fictions they transcend.

And leave us full, agape.

Memories long forgotten,
Return with unnerving force,
Bringing images and feelings,
Which illuminate their source.

Childhood may return,
In an instant; in a blink,
And the bounty and the beauty,
Are as real as what you think.

Are we all oppressed?
Life has a way of choosing,
Special circumstances,
Which make us feel we’re losing.

This intersectionality,
Complex beyond belief,
Makes us wish for something,
To fill us with relief.

Perhaps a little kindness,
From oppressor and oppressed,
Listening and compromise,
Would make us feel more blessed.

All are on this journey,
Each person’s value true,
Individuals not groups,
Are whom we should keep in view.

Taste
In the garden was a tree,
     and it’s fruit forbidden.
The people circled round and round,
     wondering at its possibilities,
          and at the prohibition.
The fruit was ripe for picking;
     shiny and alluring ...
a temptation too much to bear.
And so, they ate. Together. Realizing
     the naissance of their consciousness.
With this fearsome knowledge,
they clothed themselves and felt shame.
Hidden from the one who walked
     the garden paths as companion,
          they wondered how anything
could ever be the same again.

Today’s word is “crump” ... kruhmp ... to make a crunching sound, as in walking over snow, as snow when trodden on. (Dictionary.com)

Report
All the people in the north,
Crump about on frozen snow,
Sad and shaking in their boots,
Wishing for somewhere else to go.

Those in the warmer, happier climes,
Smile and walk with measured step,
On the beaches and the hills,
Filled with sunshine, joy and pep.

Still, there’re those who barely notice,
What reports of weather bring,
They’re too busy trudging onward,
To see sun that warms or ice that stings.

Today’s word is “moxie” ... mok-see ... Slang. Courage; nerve; determination. (Dictionary.com)

Sure
It takes some mighty moxie,
To go against the grain,
To believe that you are in the right,
Though others cause you pain.

In the cruel face of conflict,
You must be resolute,
Trusting in your instincts,
And your thoughts, astute.

Of course there may be others,
Who to their thoughts are true,
And who will fight with gusto,
To defend their point of view.

Oblivescence ... What

Today’s word is “oblivescence” ... on-luh-ves-uh ns ... the process of forgetting. (Dictionary.com)

What?
In the world of oblivescence,
Waking, every day is new,
Good friend’s names sometimes forgotten,
Even with a face in view.

Entertainment is refreshing,
We can watch movies again,
Books are read over and over,
Even though that’s where we’ve been.

It’s a disorienting space,
Where the old and new are merged,
And frightening in it’s reality,
As memories and life converge.

Today’s word is “epistemic” ... ep-uh-stee-mik ... of or relating to knowledge or the conditions for acquiring it. (Dictionary.com)

Study
In the ivy covered halls,
Where epistemic theories grow,
Mind has taken over matter,
With no practicality to show.

Years are spent in tiring toil,
Burning candles at both ends,
To create a better future,
On which graduates depend.

But no guarantees are given,
Everyone is on their own,
So they look for dream employment,
As their server skills they hone.
