Corsair

Today’s word: Corsair: a pirate or a pirate ship.  All hope abandon, ye who enter here. A far cry from one’s spirituality … or maybe not.

Anchored

Evils assail the world around,
Like corsairs on the sea,
Hunting those exposed abroad
or protected in the lee.

There’s nowhere safe for innocents,
No hiding place or cove,
No cave or fortress large enough
For the fear-full or the bold.

But, for those who bear the flame,
Of love’s fierce candle bright,
Hope lies in deeds of sacrifice
That bring the truth to light.

Gynarchy

Today’s word: Gynarchy: government by women. James Madison said, “If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.”

Who’s on First?

Governed by females: gynarchy rules.
Governed by males: androcracy rules.
Needing to be ruled by one another,
Speaks of our anarchy without discipline.

There is a new kingdom where the rule is love.
Following a leader full of grace and truth
Could lead us into peace and freedom …
If we would but consent to listen and obey.

Bulbous

First of all, apparently I'm not on Google Mean Time because yesterday's post is on today's date. Sigh
And ...oh my! Today’s word: Bulbous. Really? Ok, here goes ...

Variety
When I this earth take into view;
all its creatures old and new
Those that smell with bulbous nose,
or on enormous legs do go,
All that’s left to do is think,
that someone made them with a wink!

Pittance

Today's word is pittance: a small amount, a drop in the bucket. One day an old woman put a mite into an offering plate ...

Mite

A gift is given, all one has,
            yet to the untrained eye,
It looks as if a pittance fell
            into the plate with sighs.

What to some seems, but a small drop
            into the bucket deep,
Is known by one who sees the heart
            as secrets in a keep.

Open

Today's dictionaryology word is: meander

Open

We tend to meander through moments of time,
with no thought of what they may mean,
Gift-filled and graceful, they shyly slip by,
            quiet and mostly unseen.
But if you open your eyes to the daily surprise
            of everything given so free,
You’ll see you are held, embraced warmly as well
by the spirit that caused you to be.

Dictionaryology

There are wild-hair ideas. I have them all the time. You probably do too. They are interesting, instant and mostly impossible. Here’s one …

Every day I get a new word on my computer courtesy of dictionary.com. Since I believe that you can find God in just about anything, I wondered if I could find a way to use a “secular” word to create a short, sacred poem with the surprise word that dictionary.com supplies me. This would provoke me into creativity and give you something to read. I’m sure there are lots of writing exercises in the world and this is probably not even new and I’m not sure I can sustain it for more than 1 day, but I think I’ll try. (Smiley face goes here.)

If you’re not content with what you read, compose a poem of your own and post it here!

Today’s word is “troubadour.”

Drink

A thundering storm lumbers near,
I feel its power with silent cheer,
Plants lift up green lips to drink
Birds hide as clouds begin to sink

Soft weight releases into rain
Singing; (dryness they distain),
A washing, splattering troubadour;
Brings life anew … God’s amour.
