Consequential ... Wave

Today’s word is “consequential” ... having important effects or results. (Dictionary.com)

Wave
Little wings on hinges,
Create the world we see,
Butterflies far away,
Change the air we breathe.

It’s just a man-made theory,
It may not be true,
Yet consequential happenings,
Come to more than just a few.

We do know that, each word we speak,
Each act performed that’s kind,
Increases great contagious joy,
That ripples peace of mind.

Immemorial ... Inky

Today’s word is “immemorial” ... extending back beyond memory, record, or knowledge. (Dictionary.com)

Inky
So much is lost,
   Stone tablets and papyrus
        Cannot hold the past.
Stories told by human tongue,
    Perhaps more reliable, strangely.
But what is this “time immemorial”?
We can know nothing of this time,
          Unless the rocks themselves
               Tell us.
And even then ... we are not sure.
So, we are left with faith.
Faith in reason. Faith in ourselves.
     Faith in sacred writings. Faith
In what our intuition tells us.
And the Word. The sacred Word
     On which prophets stand.
          A good and level place.

Fussbudget ... Fix

Today’s word is “fussbudget” ... fussy or needlessly fault-finding person. (Dictionary.com)

Fix
It comes from an unlikely place,
This fussbuget’s messy mode.
She longs to see the her world pristine,
Not to criticize and gode.

She has a vision of her place,
And how all things should be,
From the way her forks are laid,
To the waves upon the sea.

In her imagination all is well,
Order and peace prevail,
We all speak grammatically,
And manners never fail.

Nothing’s dusty or a mess,
Her books neat upon the shelf,
And she herself is perfect,
(She wishes for herself.)

But, in fact, she sees the flaws,
Indeed, they’re everywhere,
So she’ll continually point them out,
Hoping to make all clear and fair.

It is exhausting, certainly,
To feel this heavy weight,
She can’t make all things perfect,
But she could in mercy wait.

Lagom ... Time

Today’s word is “lagom” ... the principle of living balanced, moderately paced, low-fuss life. (Dictionary.com)

Time
Each day bracketed,
      Held between parentheses,
A breath, caught in the lungs,
     Before exhale.
Each hour itself it’s own entity.
     Each moment also separate.
And where the edges meet ...
Who knows, as they seamless, flow.
Our choice? To fill them all with
     Love or fear. To decorate.
          Create lagom. Comfort
                Or adventure.
Use them up with joy.

Ambrosial ... Gather

Today’s word is “ambrosial” ... exceptionally pleasing to taste or smell; especially delicious or fragrant. (Dictionary.com)

Gather
Are we thankful? Yes we are.
For family, health and friends,
For this earth so beautiful,
Where our days we spend.

We’re grateful for our food,
Ambrosial and delicious,
Made festive on this special day,
Some even nutritious.

How this day did come about,
Is not the most important thing,
But that we recognize the gifts,
That every moment brings.

Pother ... Divide

Today’s word is “pother” ... heated discussion, debate, or argument; fuss; to-do. (Dictionary.com)

Divide
With so many opinions,
Who arbitrates what’s right?
It seems we want to argue,
In a pother, yell and fight.

It’s too hard to take a breath,
To close our eyes and dream,
Of a place where love could reign,
It would ruin all our schemes.

But power and fear cannot survive,
In love’s true embrace,
They melt like snowflakes in the sun,
That is the power of grace.

Ingenious ... Spiral

Today’s word is “ingenious” ... cleverly inventive or resourceful. (Dictionary.com)

Spiral
If you trace the Fibonacci,
Through your fingers or your hand,
Or the paths of immense galaxies,
You will understand.

There is more than we can see,
Purposes that undergird,
What began this grand adventure,
A solemn, holy Word.

You might choose to not believe,
In things you cannot see,
Yet love and intellect surround,
All that we’ve come to be.

Today’s word is “regale” ... to entertain lavishly or agreeably; delight. (Dictionary.com)

Smile
Wouldn’t it be lovely,
To be regaled with stories,
By a crackling fireside,
Exotic foods, mandatory.

You could while away the evening,
Quiet music playing,
And never worry again,
About things that have you praying.

Crankle ...Plans

Today’s word is “crankle” ... to bend; turn; crinkle. (Dictionary.com)

Plans
Sometimes the road is winding,
Crankling ‘round, about,
Turning unexpectedly,
It can wear a body out.

There’s no anticipating,
Just eyes open wide,
Watching for surprises,
As you move from side to side.

A little faith will help you,
Not to be dismayed,
When a darkened place appears,
And your fancies fade.

Keep the goal before you,
Remember as you go,
There are those who love you,
And a God who loves you, so ...

Imagineer ... Pixel

Today’s word is “imagineer” ... person who is skilled in implementing creative ideas into practical form. (Dictionary.com)

Yesterday’s word was “Willyard” ... obstinate; willful. Two for one!! That’s what happens when you get bitten by a spider and end up with chills and giant welts!!

Pixel
The imagineers have been running wild,
They have wrapped the world in code,
They follow every single move,
And will ‘til we’ve grown old.

They have the powers kings have craved,
They change the course of fate,
Removing all dissenting views,
To remove all evil hate.

But there are those whose willyard ways,
Will never condescend,
Who’s love of freedom will not wane,
Who refuse to blend or bend.

The game’s afoot and everywhere,
What part might you be playing?
Some of us are in anxious waiting,
Some in earnest praying.

Reverse
It’s all upside down,
The zeitgeber’s been broken,
The young are up all hours,
Sleeping when others have awoken.

Then, when adults drift off,
They begin to eat and play,
Homework and games their choice,
Until the break of day.

And we all are wondering,
How long can this chaos last?
Can order come back into our lives,
With this year firmly in the past?

Triclinium ... History

Today’s word is “triclinium” ... dining room, especially one containing couch extending along three sides of table, for reclining on at meals. (Dictionary.com)

History
Were they at their triclinium,
     when the rumbling began?
Feasting and discussing
the important matters of the day?
Enjoying the food and music
     and art as they relaxed?
In Pompeii, they say, there was
     warning.
As they lounged in the sun,
     and walked by the sea
away from the terrors of the city.
Yet, even knowing what might be coming,
     many stayed.
Tending their flowers. Getting pedicures.
Thinking about how lucky they were
to have a home by the ocean.

Volte-face ... Hmmm

Today’s word is “volte-face” ... a turnabout, especially reversal of opinion or policy. (Dictionary.com)

Hmmm
They were not expecting,
A volte-face to occur,
But even as it happened,
They protested and demurred.

Their future was imagined,
In detail, as in stone,
Now cracks amazingly appeared,
They hid their heads and moaned.

All that conniving wasted,
The energy and sweat,
They never guessed that in the end,
No expectations would be met.

Modicum ... Pause

Today’s word is “modicum” ...  moderate or small amount. (Dictionary.com)

Pause
A modicum of common sense,
Would go a long, long way,
In this age of grasping,
At whatever people say.

The truth will always come about,
Though some rather it would not,
Because their power’s reliant,
On an intricate, bare plot.

Let’s take a breath and ponder,
What’s for the good of all,
Freedom depends on justice,
Else we all will fall.
