Holophrase ...

Today’s word is “holophrase” ... a word functioning as phrase or sentence, as the imperative Go!  (Dictionary.com)

Speak
Of course we think about the Word,
The ultimate holophrase,
It appeared in all it’s fullness,
In a perfect single blaze.

It lit the former endless space,
With planets and great lights,
And worked for eons to create,
Everything, til all was right.

Within this Word is everything,
Purpose, life and peace,
Acknowledged, it will live inside,
Until all time will cease.

Fantabulous ... Innumerable

Today’s word is “fantabulous” ... extremely fine or desirable; excellent; wonderful. (Dictionary.com)

Innumerable
Are we the most fantabulous,
The best in all of space?
The only creatures with the print,
Of God on every face?

They say this place that we call home,
Is most suitable by far,
That Goldilocks would love this zone,
Unique among the stars.

When you add particulars,
Numbers insurmountable,
The details of our destiny,
Are totally uncountable.

Alembic ... Transform

Today’s word is “alembic” ... anything that transforms, purifies, or refines. (Dictionary.com)

Transform
When our words, written,
Pass through the alembic mind of God,
Are they not made of truth,
A truth not seen with human eye?

And when that truth passes into us,
Deep into our minds and hearts,
Will it not emerge again,
In deeds worthy of his name?

Shibboleth ... inevitable

Today’s word is “shibboleth” ... a common saying or belief with little current meaning or truth. (Dictionary.com)

Inevitable
We can’t rely on shibboleths,
To help us find our way,
We need the truth proclaimed out loud,
Each and every day.

Over and over shout to the air,
Write and publish wide,
Tell each other for memories’ sake,
Don’t keep it all inside.

She will out; she always does,
But we can help her speed,
As with her hand raised to the sky
She spreads her righteous seed.

Grouse ... Puzzle

Today’s word is “grouse” ... to grumble; complain. (Dictionary.com)

Puzzle
On normal days, it’s so easy,
To grouse about the smallest things,
Never thinking something worse,
Might be what tomorrow brings.

A thankful heart that’s used to searching,
For things small and bright,
Will find them in the darkest days,
And in the middle of the night.

Ad hockery

Today’s word is “ad hockery” ... reliance on temporary solutions rather than on consistent, long-term plans. (Dictionary.com)

Plot
Talking low in offices,
In restaurants and schoolrooms,
Ad hockery is on the rise,
Waiting for its full bloom.

And all those half-baked plans,
Thrown so very quickly in,
Will soon show themselves to be,
Uneven and quite thin.

A moment for an outline,
A blueprint or a map,
Would help cohere those few ideas,
They’d come together in a snap.

Bellywash ... standards

Standards
He prowls the house, his kingdom,
Making sure each thing’s in place,
There’s no discerning his current mood,
By looking at his face.

The food bowl is of interest,
As are special snacks,
If they look like bellywash,
He’ll just turn his back.

Once all is well in this domain,
It’s time to check outside,
There are squirrels to chase and wrangle,
And he’ll roam both far and wide.

Cause Célèbre ... Higher

Today’s word is “cause célèbre” ... any controversy that attracts great public attention. (Dictionary.com)

Higher
Questions rise to the top,
     like the latest cause célèbre.
Where one pops like a giant bubble,
     five more take its place.
Because there is no end to complexity,
in the earth or creatures or in ourselves.
We presume to answer all those queries;
as if we were in the know from the beginning,
          pondering our books of knowledge,
                nodding wisely by candlelight.
But we have no knowledge that enlightens,
that explains our source or the reasons
We are here, or how all of everything
               came to be.
And if we can’t determine any of those things,
what do we know that will help us live?
In our humanity we need humility. We need
to depend on wisdom which goes beyond
our own. This is difficult, but the
Only thing which will help us move forward.

Sparkle
Mammonism will take everything.
You think that gold is gain,
That jewels and crystal fountains,
Come with no accusing pain?

Sitting in the midst of wealth,
All you can see is more.
Like Midas surrounded,
His daughter walking through the door.

Would you trade your best loves,
Your simple times and songs,
For piles of “security”,
Where you pretend that you belong.

Beamish ... Break

Today’s word is “beamish” ... bright, cheerful, and optimistic. (Dictionary.com)

Break
How the tables turn,
The lost ones finally found,
The beamish poor are rich,
The evil gone to ground.

It happens in a blink,
When a wall comes down,
The prisoners freed forever,
The lame ones skip and bound.

There is only one,
Who can these changes bring,
Owner of the kingdom.
Where love and truth both sing.

Terrene ... Crumbs

Today’s word is “terrene” ... earthly; worldly. (Dictionary.com)

Crumbs
Watching the moon slip
     Behind clouds.
As night deepens. And hides.
     Shadows overwhelm.
We know morning is only
     A few hours away ...
          And that it always comes.
But in this terrene place,
Where what is seen seems to be
           Everything that is,
The darkness is complete.
The faith to believe in something better,
          Comes on tiptoe.
It comes from watching impossible
     Situations resolve. Through hope.
           Through prayer.
Through unexpected miracles of love.

Ergo ... So

Today’s word is “ergo” ... therefore. (Dictionary.com)

So
Carried through the days,
On wings we cannot see,
We keep on asking, “Why?”
And question gravity.

Through no brilliance of our own,
Our bodies learn and grow,
We make our plans with gusto,
And say, ergo, we know.

But there are common mysteries,
That bypass our frail ways,
We ignore them at our peril,
For they will have their say.

Discombobulate ... Dizzy

Today’s word is “discombobulate” ... to confuse or disconcert; upset; frustrate. (Dictionary.com)

Dizzy
From our crazy
     Discombobulated world,
At least our human part of it,
     It seems uncanny ...
That nature is all arcs and whorles,
     And numbered parts
And seasons and finely tuned equations,
     And Fibonacci spirals and galaxies,
And fingerprints and cells and powers,
And forces like gravity and endless
Stars and tides and currents and sound,
     And unbelievable creatures to fit
Every ecology and land mass and airspace,
And plants and insects much too complicated
And beautiful for no reason. We are witnesses.

Umbrageous ... Celebrated

Today’s word is “umbrageous” ... apt to take offense. (Dictionary.com)

Celebrated
Being offended is an art,
And highly prized these days,
The more steps up the hierarchy,
The more one should be praised.

But why this pride in lesser things?
The umbrageous surely fall,
And are no fun to be with,
Sometimes no fun at all.

Let us concentrate instead,
On improving character,
And loving one another,
Until our goal is clear.

Bunkum ... Follow

Today’s word is “bunkum” ... insincere talk; claptrap; humbug. (Dictionary.com)

Follow
We are easy to deceive,
As we look for silver linings,
Ignoring fakery and bunkum,
To find where the truth is shining.

Facts that are not, may be painted,
Camouflaged like tools of war,
Made to glisten like the real thing,
Making the masses ask for more.

And in their righteous indignation,
Sure of all they’ve read and seen,
They call for swift and endless judgement,
To make life both pure and clean.

Where one idea reigns alone,
And the others are rejected,
All the people are imprisoned,
And the rule of law’s rejected.

Aoristic ... Wait

Today’s word is “aoristic” ... indefinite; indeterminate. (Dictionary.com)

Wait
On hold.
Facing an aoristic future.
What’s new about that?
Can we see tomorrow’s sunrise from today?
Can we know if we will see the sun at all?
We have no guarantees. Only hope.
And faith in something better.
Someone who can save us from ourselves.
