Toscin … Reverberation

Today’s word is “toscin” … signal, especially of alarm, sounded on bell or bells. (Dictionary.com)

Reverberation
Don’t worry if you hear the bells,
Freedom and faith is in their ringing,
Do not presume they are a toscin,
It may be holy angels singing.

If you do not hear their joy,
If silence only greats your ears,
A heavy hand may have stilled them,
A portent of unspoken fears.

So let them chime and sing along,
Dance with their soundings in your mind,
Pray they will ring both loud and long,
And that we will true peace find.

Irrefragable … Walk

Just a note to anyone who is getting these poems every day in their e-mail … the service that provides the e-mails with Blogger is not going to be working after the 30th. I am trying to install an alternative, but it is complicated and it may take a while for me to figure it out. So … if you are getting the e-mails and want to continue to, please send a message to me at: aselleck2005@gmail.com and I will add you to the list and in the mean time I’ll send the poems to you individually or you can go to theartofanne.blogspot.com anytime! Thanks for reading!

Today’s word is “irrefragable” … Not to be disputed or contested. (Dictionary.com)

Walk
World weary we do wander,
Believing in a destination,
The way is very hard, as promised,
Filled with trials, and yet, elation.

What is irrefragable,
Is that we travel to that end,
And what happens on the way,
Determines how we will ascend.

Fletcherize … Chewy

Today’s word is “fletcherize” … to chew (food) slowly and thoroughly. (Dictionary.com)

Chewy
There are some difficult ideas,
That must be fletcherized,
Consumed slowly, carefully,
Brought down to smaller size.

If not, they will overwhelm,
And will not nourish well,
Useless their consumption,
And questions won’t be quelled.

Instead, enter the timeless,
Study with determination,
Soon concepts will enlighten,
And with them come elation.

Fiesty
There seems to be a brouhaha,
Every single day,
Someone’s mad at someone else,
Keeping life in disarray.

Chaos seems their pleasure,
Making peace not in their ken,
As pain follows injury,
It’s only a guess of when.

‘Til we learn a better way,
Our example is the past,
Those things did not turn out well,
We need a peace that lasts.

Furphy … Plans

Today’s word is “furphy” … a false report; rumor. (Dictionary.com)

Plans
Oh, what is the path to take?
The way is dark and drear,
The furphy and the common lies,
Make the choice unclear.

One says, “here!” the other, “there!”
You spin with misdirection,
You hold all things alike in thought,
Fearing each rejection.

How you ache for tell or sign,
Something strong to hold,
A word to help you through the wilds,
To help you to be bold.

But only truth will steady,
And intuition guide,
Leading to a better place,
Where there’s no need to hide.

Summer
The people are perambulating,
All the country round and round,
They are sick and tired of waiting,
Now there are treasures to be found.

In the East the lobsters wait,
For seafood foodie’s endless feasts,
Ancient monuments still gleam,
Waiting for a glance, at least.

The West holds giant mountains high,
Pine trees covering rocky rills,
They reach down to the frothy ocean,
With creatures and amazements filled.

In the South through heat and haze,
Mosses hang from cypress trees,
Gators lurk and porpoise play,
You can watch them all for free.

The North is filled with wonders,
Glaciers calve and wild whales breach,
Everything is magical,
Nothing there is out of reach.

Encomium …

Today’s word is “encomium” … a formal expression of high praise. (Dictionary.com)

King
The way he struts himself about,
Would make a person think,
That all encomia were his alone,
And to him all should drink.

Words so eloquently pronounced,
Phrases that seemed to float,
Paragraphs of wisdom,
Hallmarked the things he wrote.

Oh, if only his actions had proved,
His ideas to be perfection,
He would not have suffered the wrath of those,
Who now call for his rejection.

When things aren’t right or fair?

What can comfort you,
‘Til insouciant is what you feel?
Though still trouble comes,
And the challenges are real?

Find that place or person,

That art or meditation,
And peace gently will unfold.

Hard
As always there’s a zeitgeist,
Swirling through our days,
You can feel it in the very air,
Through society it plays.

It’s a spirit of confusion,
Of division and of strife,
The good and pure are challenged,
To uphold truth and right.

But in the very end we’ll see,
We are made of light,
The love we share will purify,
And put our fears to flight.

Seem so shiny and so bright,
The image they reflect,

Yet they can be as gormless,
As one on the bottom rung,
And by their willful actions,
They too can be hung.

Why does power corrupt,
Even the purest soul?
What exactly does it take,
To keep a person whole?

Searching for their sustenance,
Every day it’s finally found.

Turning from the inside out,
The world revolves,
Promising its rich rewards,
Until all mysteries are solved.

Omnium-gatherum … Sleepy

Today’s word is “omnium-gatherum” … a miscellaneous collection. (Dictionary.com)

Sleepy
Sometimes in a stupor,
We will watch T.V.
A omnium-gatherum of shows,
How many can we see?

If you’re sick in bed,
They can go on for days,
But you might have to re-watch,
If you’re in a dizzy haze.

But if you don’t remember,
Or scenes you can not recognize,
You can just rewind them,
Or be in for a surprise!
