Today's word is "halux" ... HAL-uhs ...great toe; big toe. The comparble, usually backward-directed digit in birds. (dictionary.com)
Focus
Fastened to his branch
by halux and toes,
Hanging on in faked
nonchalance,
Eyes wide, waiting for
unsuspecting prey,
He watches out of
instinct ... guileless.
On guard 'til morning.
Then, his eyes will close.
And in silence, he will sleep,
'til wakened by the moon
and hunger.
