Aphesis

Today's word is "aphesis" ...  Historical Linguistics.  the disappearance or loss of an unstressed initial
vowel or syllable, as in the formation of the word slant from aslant.

Question
Without a clue they wander,
under the influence of their own ideas,
hoping to figure out what the point
of their lives could be. They have no
need of sage advice or others experience.
The mere thought that God might be
involved is an impossibility. So their
characters become formed partially,
like a word suffering aphesis.
If a humbling event should occur,
all bets would be off, and all
options immediately explored.
Why they wait is the question.
