Schmaltz

Today's word is "smaltz" ... Exaggerated sentamentalism, as in music or soap operas.

Cold
Snowflake fall. From a frozen sky
most formidable. Each disquised to look
the same. And at first glance, it could
be true. White, flying crystals. Only
existing for a moment or a day. Made
of water molded mysteriously, their
tempered travels through clouds
resulting in six-sided miracles.
Much has been made of their
uniqueness. We can create
schmaltzy paper replicas for tree
hanging, but they can't compete
with this complexity. And we,
like them, walk about in very
much the same skin, but are
faceted by love. We too
sparkle in the light, for
a moment or a day, and
then dissolve, and
fall, softly to
the earth.
