Misoniesm

Today's word is "misoniesm" ... Hatred or dislike of what is new or represents change.

New
The day dawns. It looks like any other.
Except the sun is overcome
by blowing clouds of snow and
your own cold breath in front of you.

A cardinal you've never seen before
lands on your feeder and stares at
you as if he knows your name and
would keep you company if allowed.

This morning brings an surprize call
from an old friend, or an e-mail from a stranger
begging for money, or a song on the radio
that sounds like nothing you've ever heard.

If you admit to your misoniesm,
you may feel abandoned by the
ground you thought you felt beneath
your feet. Then again, the next moment
may hold a goodness unexpected.
