Pokelogan

Today's word is "pokelogan" ... Marshy or stagnant water that has branched of from a stream or lake.

Advent?
It's coming closer.
This Christmas thing.
The necessary music intensifies.
Bells in front of the stores.
Bells in the stores.
Santas appearing in strange places.
(The wrapping paper and ribbons have been
       lurking since before Thanksgiving.)
This is the pokelogan of the season.
The fresh water, the living water,
is in the church and the hearts of her people.
And it lives always and forever; though
there is one day a year when the nearness
of that water may fill you like a well,
     with tears.
