Ambulate

Today's word is "ambulate" ... To walk about; to move from place to place.

Lessons
Superstition requires faith ...
To believe that salt over the shoulder,
Or a black cat crossing before you,
Or ambulating under a ladder,
Will affect fate and the way
It deals with you.

To believe that there is a true story
Of the world requires faith as well ...
That there is purpose and reason
And love in this place that refuses
To give itself wholly to us. That we
Are part of something good that
Reaches back to the beginning
And forward to the end of all
Things as we know them.

The difference is the hope
That rises unmistakably
From the lips of sinners become
Saints. Which happens, not of
Their own accord, but by love's
Story soaking into them, like
A soft spring rain resurrects
Bright flowered colors from
Buried bulbs unseen.
