Toile

9/7/13
Today’s word: “toile” complicated patterned fabric. Fabric. Again! Of all the subjects in the world. All right then … thinking about what it’s like to downsize.

Un-Decorating

I could give away possessions
That I don’t like very much,
But what about the ones
That I like to see or touch?

What about the pictures
Of folks in my family,
Or chairs that are so comfortable
Or that big screen T.V.?

How ‘bout that special shelf of books,
Or my closet full of clothes?
Treadmills and old croquet balls,
Or trinkets that I chose?

Bicycles and vehicles
That have taken me away,
Paintings, spoons and pottery
That all around me lay.

A bolt of toile or sewing things
I could give away with cheer,
But my ipad, or my mobile phone
Would make me sad for years.

With all the stuff that’s in my life,
In all the closets filled,
I should figure out what’s important
And what can go to the Goodwill.

Of course what really matters
Are love and faith and friends
Family, health and joyful times,
And God’s gifts that never end.

So, when I’m giving things away,
I won’t be tempted to throw out,
The memories, moments, smiles or tears
That life is all about.
