Auspicate

Today’s word: Auspicate: fortell, forshadow, portend, prefigure, presage with good intention. Not something I’ll use in conversation anytime soon!

Seer

The future is not ours to hold,

            or guess about or make,

If we think we can, or should or might;

            our power we mistake.

The hands that made the universe,

            now auspicate all things,

Signs and times and prophets bold,

            announce what moments bring.

           

Even though we cannot know,

            what will come our way,

With patience practiced as we wait,

            fears are by faith allayed.
