Obsequy

Today's word is "obsequy" ... funeral rite or ceremony.

If
Could we have an obsequy for death?
The death of war and sickness
incomplete ideas, insults and intolerance,
cruelty, torment and in general,
man's inhumanity to man.
The death of gossip and gluttony,
lying, greed and slander?
No more political expediency,
mediocre medicine, poisoned food,
scary neighborhoods, expensive gas,
institutions full of uncaring people,
injustice, pride, narcissism,
incompetent service, shoddy products,
thievery, slavery, children being used.
And closer in, that desire that follows
you around prodding you to do what
you don't want to do or preventing you
from doing what you know you should.
There will be no funeral for any of
these things until we die to self. Then
the awakening will begin.
