Today's word is "helpmate" ... A companion and helper, a spouse, anything that aids or assists, especially regularly: this calculator is my constant helpmate.

What would life be like alone,

Without a helpmate or a friend

To lend a hand or sympathetic ear,

Or a card or message send.

With no one around to talk to,

The house would be most still,

With just the cat for company,

And her ignoring you from the sill.

But since we have volition,

We can choose to open doors,

And invite the other in,
To cherish and adore.
