Today’s word is “grubstake” ... money or other assistance furnished at a time of need or of starting an enterprise. (Dictionary.com)
Shine
Once, long ago in the western past,
When cowboys ruled the range,
There were those who panned,
For gold to be exchanged.
Nuggets for coins and dollars,
Making the grubstake worthwhile,
Time to find the best fashion,
From the local mercantile!
A new blanket and rope,
Saddle, chaps and spurs,
Maybe even a new horse,
And cap made out of fur.
So many people digging,
And sifting hopefully,
Using all their waking time,
Thinking of the coming spree.
