Foible ... Repent

Today’s word is “foible” ... minor weakness or failing of character; slight flaw or defect. (Dictionary.com)

Repent
Another day, another instance,
Of the foibles of the human race,
How can anybody wonder,
Why we need saving and need grace?

Left to our own devices,
Perfect cities don’t arise,
Despite our great technology,
We’re a sorry sort of prize.

You’d think by now we’d have figured,
The best ways to love and live,
But we are selfish and unhappy,
And of our bounty do not give.

How arrogant for us to think,
That time is all we need,
A reading of the distant past,
Should convince us of our greed.

There is more to this existence,
Than all that we can see,
God alone can save us,
If we’d return to him ... not flee.
