Newfangled ... Idea

Today’s word is “newfangled” ... of a new kind or fashion. (Dictionary.com)

Idea

No matter how newfangled,

Gadgets cannot unwind,

The beginnings of our life on earth,

Whether benign or cruel or kind.

The same for our philosophies,

Our theories and our guesses,

Complications unerringly arise,

In that which science blesses.

We think we can outsmart the past,

Figure all its wily ways,

But the more we look, the more we find,

The more it has its say.

Maybe in the tiniest speck,

We’ll find a conscious spark,

But until design we honor,

We’ll be dancing in the dark.
