Forth
Our history, like people,
Has not perfection’s gleam,
But things perceived as evil,
May not be what they seem.
Repudiating everything,
Is not fair or true,
There is goodness also,
And some of it is new.
No one said the darkness,
Would be in an instant gone,
The fight for light has always,
Been both hard and long.
Our humanness won’t take us,
To the promised land,
But, if we go with God,
We’ll get there hand in hand.
