Today’s word is “frisson” ... French. free-sawn. A sudden, passing feeling of excitement.; a shudder of emotion; thrill. (Dictionary.com)
Again
The garden looked sad.
Last years life dead sticks and leaves.
Branches with barely noticeable nubs,
And brittle, brown hydrangeas frozen in time.
I kicked dejectedly at a pile of earth.
Then, surprised, felt a frisson of discovery,
Thin iris leaves pointed up.
And close by, hostas grew in multitudes.
The earth, despite drear, dominating winter,
Once again enabled resurrection.
How could I have doubted there would be
Common signs; promises fulfilled?
