Empty
Blank spots in my memory,
Appear when least expected,
When introducing my best friend,
(I'm sure I'll be rejected.)
I can't just call her "whoosis",
Or mumble soft and low,
In this awkward situation,
I just want to up and go.
But if someone else is near,
I can turn to him and wink,
He'll supply the missing name,
So no one less of me will think.
Sometimes it takes two (or three),
To remember simple things,
But even in this misery,
Friends remove the sting.
