Today’s “deciduous”... dih-sij-oo-uh s ... shedding the leaves annually, as certain trees and shrubs. (Dictionary.com)
Heat
This is a strange fall.
The sun is beating down
with a vengeance,
Brown, crunchy grass holds
first fallen leaves,
And the acorns are attacking!
Pelting us, like hard, brown rain.
It’s almost as if the weather itself,
is hanging on for dear life,
like a dying cancer patient.
Even so, as the deciduous forest
keeps time leaf by leaf,
we feel the coming of winter,
in our bones.
