Dusk

I miss their graceful beauty,

Glimering through the trees,

A hoof, an eye, an antler,

Hidden in a wooded sea.

Stepping slowly out, they pause,

Sifting sounds from wayward breeze,

Curious, wary, all at once,

Moving with contemplated ease.

Wise as serpents, innocent as doves,

We too with cervine caution live,

Watching behind, around, before,

For signs which events and portents give.
