Gift
Would it make a difference,
If we would leave ex-votos,
At every church and temple,
On every lawn and space?
If we would count our blessings,
Our children and our friends,
Our faith and opportunities,
Would we our motives bend?
What would it take to realize,
All the good that’s ours,
How much already’s wrested,
From the unholy powers.
A bit of hesitation,
Might serve us in these days,
To keep us from the violence,
That comes in evil’s haze.
