Lulu ... Landing

Landing
The trail was a loo-loo!
At the beginning,
     a paved meandering.
Then slowly, inevitably,
     upward winding.
They climbed, single-file, 
     as the path narrowed,
          one precarious step at a time.
Only chains clasped hand
     over hand kept the
          hikers from 
               the edge.
The whole way back down,
     all they could think,
          was that they had
                overcome 
                      their fears,
And been in awe
     at the top of the world.
