Respite

We thought that we'd enjoy,

Warmth of the sandy shore,

Not with heliolatry,

But with something more.

A love of splashing waves,

Of gulls patrolling 'round,

Of sunset's stunning hues,

And thrilling treasures found.

On the shallow sandy dune,

A cool fog chilled our bones,

We wondered at this sign,

And packed up to go home.
