Today's word is "droke" ... A valley with steeply sloping sides. (dictionary.com)
Green
Sometimes I remember
mountains rocky, and drokes
filled with pines planted
at the beginning of time.
We walked through the
switchbacks, feeling very small.
We inhaled the scent of their mystery
and felt our powerlessness in
the face of their majesty. The
world is truly old and we are
but visitors, tolerated for a while.
That nature will prove herself,
in the end, to have the power
of new life, no matter what
we frail but boastful humans
imagine we can create
or destroy.
